Going to go pull some weeds & whatnot on my lunch break. Sharing this collection of links in case anybody out there wants to go down a #gardening rabbit hole.

A long onion sprout from Zodi’s garden
My kid said, “It’s the tallest onion ever!“ 🤯
And I thought that was adorable because he has no other onions to compare it to. 😆
But hey, thanks for hyping your mama up. Gonna chop this up & use it in my lunchtime salad.

I know that creepy crawlies are technically necessary for ecosystems. But I still don’t like finding them because EEEEEEWWWWWW! 😆😱
#ZodiGardens
Going to grab some more things for the garden after we finish at the park today. So I am re-watching this video from Jamila Norman. It’s a basic gardening overview.
#BlackSkyGardeners / #BlackGardensky - What are y’all doing in your gardens this weekend?

Tiny cabbage head sprouts
Today’s backyard update:
🧅 Little man & I found a tiny caterpillar having dinner on a chive.
🥬 I picked a head of cabbage recently, & tiny ones are growing to replace it. So cute!
🌱 We finally got some seeds planted. (Late, I know.) He was very helpful with counting them. 😆
#ZodiGardens
I ordered more grow bags and trellises/cages for this summer’s tomatoes, okra, peppers, carrots, & cucumbers.
My cabbages and onions are still going strong from last year.
I thought about doing a raised bed by the fence but I like the portability of bags for storms & such. #ZodiGardens
All that being said, have you aerated your garden soil lately? Be sure you’re not putting tender spring seedlings into compacted soil! #ZodiGardens

Little man didn’t feel well yesterday, but we are out and about today, honey.
Browsing seeds, playing at the park, enjoying the weather.
#BlackSky, what are y’all planting this spring?
#ZodiGardens
It’s the season for playing in the dirt. 👩🏾🌾
I’m planning out what I will do with this area. Definitely planting some lavender.

It is February, which means it is time for me to get my spring 2026 garden together.
This year’s garden will be smaller, as I’m studying for some certificates. But I’m excited to grow, experiment, learn, & eat!
My #ZodiGardens posts make me smile. Glad I shared those photos here.
Making stew today. These fat carrots are going into the crock pot soon. Gonna experiment with sautéing the leaves. They smell so sweet & fresh!

4 small orange sweet peppers from Zodi’s garden
Alright. Technically at work today. Gonna do a little bit then tidy up & make some lentils or black beans (I hate black-eyed peas), greens, & cornbread.
My cabbages aren’t ready to be harvested yet. But here are some sweet peppers I picked yesterday. #ZodiGardens
Zodi dumped all the soil out of the sweet potato grow bag. Here is the pile of soil with a potato peeking out.

Well, friends. With Thanksgiving approaching, I went ahead and harvested the sweet potatoes I’ve been growing these last few months. I started this grow bag with just ONE slip as an experiment.
Definitely have a lot to learn, but this was fun!

More photos from our time in the yard this morning.
💧 Obsessed with the way dew drops perfectly decorate the edges of my cabbage leaves.
🐛 My Mojo baby & I relocated a tiny caterpillar.
🥕 My carrot tops are serving verdant lushness. #StiffWhere? 😋

I don’t remember ever having this many peppers on one plant this late in the year. 😲
Every season is different. Every plant is different. There’s always a surprise when working with nature.

I don’t know much about fungi, but it was cool seeing these big ass mushrooms in the raised bed this morning. 🍄🟫 #ZodiGardens #GardenSky 🌱 #BackyardGarden #UrbanGardening #BlackUrbanGardeners
🥬 My cabbages are growing nicely. I experimented with some different soils in the grow bags. This one is getting full after recovering from caterpillars.
🥕 My handful of grand nantes carrots seem ok, but who knows until harvest?
🫑 No idea why these sweet peppers are so tiny LOL.

A baby cabbage from OP’s garden, September 2025
Y’all wanna see a couple of my tiny baby cabbages? This lingering heat has been tough on them, but I think I’ll have some nice heads within a couple of months.

A handful of OP’s homegrown jalapeño peppers, September 2025
My jalapeños this time of year are much smaller than they are in high summer, but still full of heat.
I really do be growing things. ☺️
Fall/winter garden is coming soon. It’s still too hot here for the seedlings to thrive.

Some of Zodi’s pink periwinkle
Had to trim back this periwinkle. I love how abundant & resilient they are. Other plants falter in this heat, but these grow like weeds. #FlowerSky #GardenSky 🌱 #ZodiGardens
All in all, I’ve learned a lot from my small spring 2025 garden. Aside from enjoying yummy homegrown treats, I connected with neighbors, & I taught my son how to hunt for grubs. 😋
The season isn’t quite over, but I don’t do much in high summer because the sun is too harsh here. #ZodiGardens
A bowl of cucumbers, jalapeños, cherry tomatoes, & basil from Zodi’s garden
Growing my own lunch means delicious cucumber salads whenever I want. 🤤 #ZodiGardens
I gotta figure out how to make a little scarecrow. These citified thug ass birds around here probably wouldn’t be scared of it, though.
Brainstorming for my autumn garden. #ZodiGardens

Finally getting some color on my sweet peppers, and I picked a bowl full of cherry tomatoes this morning. 😄

I’ve fermented other things I’ve grown, but not tomatoes yet. Going to try it with a few small jars at the end of this season.
