"In a time of uncertainty, it’s important to connect people to science. Sharing science isn't just about facts. It's about opening windows into the wonder, challenges and human side of science." Kavli's Brooke Smith celebrated the @aaas.org Kavli Science Journalism Awards winners at the #AAASmtg

Congratulations 🎉 to SNAP members Shreya Venkatesh & Bryce Wedig (@brycewedig.bsky.social) for winning 1st place 🥇 in their presentation categories at #AAASmtg!

I can’t say it better than @disha-patel3.bsky.social already did. The opportunity to meet 40+ SNAPpers at #AAASmtg and then reflect on a year of @snapcoalition.bsky.social? Priceless!

Trust in science is getting attention, including at #AAASmtg. The 'war on science' isn't what many assume. The Kavli Sparks program gathered scientists to examine data on public sentiment on science and science funding, challenging assumptions. Learn more: bit.ly/4kTLBDK

✨ #AAASmtg Highlights! ✨
The 2026 @aaas.org Science @ Scale theme brought big ideas from across the research landscape. From climate & public health to biomedical innovation, it was inspiring to step outside our orbit—and even convert a few particle physicists into #organonchip fans.

Science communication is totally our jam, and getting to talk about how we do what we do is always great! Thanks to everyone who sat in on our session during the #AAASmtg last week.

Finally back from the #AAASmtg, and I had such a wonderful and energizing time meeting other scientists and science advocates across so many disciplines. I also had a great time talking about @aaasmassmedia.bsky.social with @michalruprecht.com @peterha2l.bsky.social @livmonahan.bsky.social

RISE center #AAASmtg recap:
RISE director Sara Brownell organized a session named “Bridging ideological divides in science” with speakers Joe Graves, @lizbarnes.bsky.social, and @docrowschaef.bsky.social highlighting the need for dialogue rather than deficit when discussing controversial topics.
I always find the fellow night owls! So many interesting conversations @AAASmtg and friendships cemented. Talking #SciComm and #SciPolicy. #AAASmtg

#AAASmtg in Phoenix was such a treat--talks on primates communicating with gestures; water scarcity in the US; building trustworthy, sturdy data infrastructure; the promises and peril of AI; and so much more. Lots to think about on the way home! And I met so many interesting and kind people.
Two great days in Phoenix for #AAASmtg 🌵
Loved reconnecting with colleagues, exploring the expo, and officially joining AAAS.
Our panel on data governance & privacy sparked thoughtful, nuanced questions — exactly the kind of conversation we need right now.

@snapcoalition.bsky.social is the most wonderful and inspirational group of graduate students and we are so beyond grateful to be a part of the SNAP community! #AAASmtg

This. SNAP was incredible and gives me hope for the future of scientific organizations. The fact that #ECRs were the only ones to walk out of the plenary is telling as well.
#AAASmtg #AAAS2026
You’ve asked #ECRs repeatedly what we need - we need science to stop associating with evil for money. We also need everyone to do better about calling out evil and injustice when we see it. We have to do better.
#AAASmtg #AAAS2026
The fact that it is once again students who are raising this awareness is telling.

Let me be blunt - the fact that Greene had contact with Epstein after his 2008 conviction for solicitation of a minor for ANY REASON tells me exactly what I need to know.
#AAAS2026 #AAASmtg
No acknowledgment of why Brian Greene, a known associate of Jeffery Epstein, was removed from a @aaas.org plenary discussion at #AAASmtg #AAAS2026 is egregious.
The insult to injury? Listening to his replacement say he ‘wishes he was listening to Greene present as well’.
It’s been fun @AAASMtg to find chemists who knew my father, Theodore Kuwana. #Chemistry #AAASmtg
The @aaas.org conference had a fun “Bingo” game, where you had to find Easter Eggs signs at the talks or in the Expo room, and scan the QR code, or fill out the hashtag. Currently, five people are in the leaderboard……

Empty halls and escalators. A feeling of emptiness best captured by the meme of the Toto song playing in an empty mall: https://www.reddit.com/r/LetsTalkMusic/s/SUIpKfWJwU https://youtu.be/D__6hwqjZAs?si=Rxy2_wUIIUrLHf-A
Amazingly quickly, the whole conference building is empty - perhaps associated with the closing reception in the Hyatt next door.
