Abandoned Railway This ancient railway wildlife reserve’s heritage betrayed by black cinder track. Whose story’s explained on a modern plaque. Overgrown cutting takes slow gentle curve down to that next village it used to serve. We can almost hear the old puffing stack, smell scalding steam, hot smoke with smuts so black. Just silence now and wildlife to observe. In the short century they slaved away, machines and people doing their duty, owner’s tyranny they had to defeat. Ignorance of use, brought us to today, this steel rail, that gave way to wild beauty, was taken by the heartless balance sheet. @BardPharts 6 August 2025
