ABOTAK! Press Release. Opening Saturday 8th March
Abortion Dream Team: we are opening the first Abortion Center in democratic Poland!
Abortion Dream Team is done waiting. After 32 years of living in a country with abortion ban and hearing empty promises from politicians, they are taking the next step by opening the first dedicated abortion center in Poland.
“The new government elected in 2023 promised us legal abortion, yet no changes have been made. Politicians have failed to keep their word — so we are taking the next step,”- said Natalia Broniarczyk.
“At Abotak Abortion Center you will be able to get information about abortion abroad, take a free pregnancy test, receive support during a miscarriage, and, whenever needed, have an abortion with pills - said Justyna Wydrzyńska.
“The Abotak Abortion Center is more than a safe space for support – it is a place where we actually have abortions. The Abotak Abortion Center’s location is symbolic - at Wiejska Street in Warsaw — where the biggest decisions are made, directly near the Parliament and the headquarters of the country’s leading political party. That’s why the Abotak Abortion Center is here” - said Kinga Jelińska.
“The ABOTAK Center in Warsaw will be a place where everyone can find understanding and professional support, without judgment or unnecessary barriers. But the ABOTAK Abortion Center is more than just a safe space for support — it’s a place where abortion access becomes a reality, not just a demand.” said Anna Pięta.
ABOTAK The opening
On March 7 at 10:00 AM, a press breakfast will be held at the ABOTAK Center, marking the moment the clinic’s location becomes public. The meeting point is at the entrance of the Polish Parliament accreditation office. A delicious breakfast to celebrate this historic day will be prepared for us by Va Bene and Va Bene Cicchetti.
On March 8, the Center will officially open its doors at 12:00 PM — come by to celebrate!
Stop in to share a high-five, contribute to someone’s abortion care, or simply have a chat about life.
ABOTA. Context.
The Abortion Dream Team was founded in 2016 and is part of the international network Abortion Without Borders — the most effective abortion support initiative in Europe. Every day, they help facilitate approximately 130 abortions in Poland, following WHO standards and guidelines.
Poland’s restrictive abortion laws have placed significant barriers to care, but feminist collectives and activist networks have ensured that most people seeking abortions can access the medicines and information they need. While legal restrictions have existed since 1993, a 2020 Constitutional Tribunal ruling eliminated fetal impairment as a legal ground for abortion, further limiting options within the formal healthcare system. In 2024, only 787 abortions were performed in Polish hospitals—less than 0.5% of all abortions in the country—while the majority (47 000) took place outside the official system with support from feminist organizations and cross-border networks.
