In Brazil, they built Colombo dos Palmares, a self - sustaining black city that lasted nearly one hundred years. These were aren't small rebellions. They were organized, armed and strategic. They were freedom on their own terms. So why don't we hear their names ? Because they didn't wait to be freed. They freed themselves. The Maroons proved not all resistance was lost.
