There is only one nesting spot left in Washington for Puffins. We were super lucky to see two Horned Puffins, as well as several Tufted Puffins yesterday on a birding boat tour in Puget Sound.

A Common Murre comes in for a landing among a busy colony above crashing waves of the Oregon coast.

This colony of Common Murres was on the Oregon coast in winter 15 years ago. These birds have endured a difficult decade, with mass die-offs mostly due to food scarcity in warming oceans. But these were vibrant at the time - a real treat of nature.
