The Buybuyanen/Buybuyense coat of arms is composed of two important elements: At the lower two-thirds of the arms is a kapok/silk cotton tree [derived from the colonial-era coat of arms of Portuguese/Spanish Guinea (courtesy of Heralder) by colleague TheTelugu in the Request Maps/Flags/Coats of Arms/Heraldry thread] over an Azure field, symbolizing not just the provincial etymology ("buybuy" is the Luuk term for kapok/silk cotton tree) but also its importance in every aspect of the province in general, while in the upper one-third is a single sun (courtesy of Henry Salomé) over a Gules fied, symbolizing the fact that the province was the northern part of the pre-colonial kingdom of Tondo-Namayan (see: Mutia nan Katimuran).
