A light fog greeted my wife and me as we embarked on our pre-dawn walk. The temperature was hovering just above freezing, the buildings of lower Manhattan shrouded in chilly mist across the river. The last remains of snow clung to the edges of the sidewalk, no longer crunching beneath our feet. With the moon hidden behind the thick clouds, we strolled along by only the blurred glow of streetlights, breathing in the quiet. And just as we turned for home, it began to rain softly… Here’s some more (US) morning mellow.

I can say with ease that winter is my least favorite time of year. A season of slowed energy, diminished color, a yearning for warmth. Cold seems to permeate everything, the drab days bleeding one into another until weeks have blurred by, living in greyscale. But I take solace in the things I value: a good meal, a good tune, my cats, my wife’s embrace or just a brushing of our hands. When the light outside is bleached and bleak, I strive to remember that there’s always light inside. So with a bit of that subtle warmth, here's some more (US) morning mellow.

It was an early start today, as I had a 6:30am meeting with overseas colleagues. I did manage a quick walk before rain and time drove me back inside. Now that the meeting is complete (it was a success, BTW), I’m typing away here in the cool, dim light of my monitor. For some reason, that light and this vibe have got me reminiscing about my chillout lounge days when I’d sprinkle some slightly upbeat, but still smooth sounds in amongst the trip hop and downtempo tracks.
