And a round of applause for @willhaycardiff.bsky.social for some excellent chairing!

This is a block of text from WEL, alongside a top-down aerial image of the River Ely (just outside Cardiff), a winding greyish block of river going around a bend, dotted with some trees and green fields surrounding it.

The text says: "SoNaRR is Wales' environmental report card and we're failing on every measure. We need systemic change, and we need to stop treating nature and climate as mere afterthought.

We cannot keep saying budgets and jobs are 'greener' when the evidence clearly shows that actually, everything is more polluted, more degraded and species are more in danger of becoming extinct.

Alongside a change in priority for the environment - both in funding and policy - the Welsh Government must ensure regulations are robust, that the new Office for Environmental Governance Wales (yet to be established) is well resourced independent; and that Natural Resources Wales' enforcement is strong.

Restoration efforts are not just fun and nice-to-have projects - they are the frontline of environmental recovery. SoNaRR 2025 sounds the alarm that we are still on a path to significant decline; and the chances are running out to turn it around."

We've put our response here; but we could say it in an even more brief way...

SoNaRR is the alarm for Welsh nature. And yet we keep ignoring it.

At a crossroads: why Wales must futureproof its new green governance - Institute of Welsh Affairs The new OEGW can fill our environmental governance gap, but it must be given the legal duty and resources to ensure its independence and delivery.

Great blog from @ruthchambers.bsky.social today on amendments needed to the Environment Bill: "It is essential that the OEGW’s independence from the Welsh Government is watertight, something which the bill currently fails to secure."

Our key explains each numbered area and links to briefings and sites with more information.

We just HAVE to spend more time trying to get to that nature-rich future, instead of the nature-poor dystopia we risk hurtling into if we keep taking nature for granted.

76% of people in a @rspbcymru.bsky.social survey think governments need to take more action to tackle the loss of nature - and we agree!

As we come up to next year's Senedd election, we urge all political parties to listen to voters and ensure nature isn't left behind. #WeNeedNature #AngenNatur

More reactions from our members to the Audit Wales report, highlighting the problems the biodiversity duty on councils has on the ground.

Here's our response. It really is just symptomatic of the age old problem of governing for nature; duties, reports and tick boxes do very little. We need follow through, action and funding. #WeNeedNature #AngenNatur
