A huge thank you to all the panellists and audience who joined us at our Nature & Climate hustings last night with @climatecymru.bsky.social, at Chapter Arts Centre.
And a round of applause for @willhaycardiff.bsky.social for some excellent chairing!

This is a block of text from WEL, alongside a top-down aerial image of the River Ely (just outside Cardiff), a winding greyish block of river going around a bend, dotted with some trees and green fields surrounding it. The text says: "SoNaRR is Wales' environmental report card and we're failing on every measure. We need systemic change, and we need to stop treating nature and climate as mere afterthought. We cannot keep saying budgets and jobs are 'greener' when the evidence clearly shows that actually, everything is more polluted, more degraded and species are more in danger of becoming extinct. Alongside a change in priority for the environment - both in funding and policy - the Welsh Government must ensure regulations are robust, that the new Office for Environmental Governance Wales (yet to be established) is well resourced independent; and that Natural Resources Wales' enforcement is strong. Restoration efforts are not just fun and nice-to-have projects - they are the frontline of environmental recovery. SoNaRR 2025 sounds the alarm that we are still on a path to significant decline; and the chances are running out to turn it around."
We've put our response here; but we could say it in an even more brief way...
SoNaRR is the alarm for Welsh nature. And yet we keep ignoring it.

Great blog from @ruthchambers.bsky.social today on amendments needed to the Environment Bill: "It is essential that the OEGW’s independence from the Welsh Government is watertight, something which the bill currently fails to secure."

" #Britain one of least ‘nature-connected’ nations in world – with #Nepal the most. Others languishing near bottom of 61-country study include #Canada, #Germany, #Israel, #Japan and #Spain." #nature #weneednature #vitaminN www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Four person panel sitting in front of a table, looking towards a screen with a wheel of data about different voters’ broad thoughts towards climate and nature policy. Detailed info here: https://climateoutreach.org/britain-talks-climate/climate-big-picture-2024/wales/
A close up of the data wheel, setting out broad views from voters like ‘established liberals’ and ‘dissenting disrupters’. More data here https://climateoutreach.org/britain-talks-climate/climate-big-picture-2024/wales/ and more on the segmented voter types here: https://www.moreincommon.org.uk/seven-segments/
A very interesting analysis and chat at the Britain Talks Climate & Nature Welsh launch this afternoon. Here’s their findings: climateoutreach.org/britain-talk...
Great panel too with Lee Waters, Leanne Wood and remarks from the Minister, Huw Irranca-Davies.

Our key explains each numbered area and links to briefings and sites with more information.
We just HAVE to spend more time trying to get to that nature-rich future, instead of the nature-poor dystopia we risk hurtling into if we keep taking nature for granted.

We need a new approach - as the Senedd's Climate Change, Environment & Infrastructure Committee set out in their Nature Loss report... business.senedd.wales/mgIssueHisto...
And Audit Wales in their report on public authorities' biodiversity duties... www.audit.wales/publication/...

76% of people in a @rspbcymru.bsky.social survey think governments need to take more action to tackle the loss of nature - and we agree!
As we come up to next year's Senedd election, we urge all political parties to listen to voters and ensure nature isn't left behind. #WeNeedNature #AngenNatur
I heard one singing this morning. They do lift the heart. But then, so does all birdsong. #NatureNeedsUs #WeNeedNature 🐦⬛
More reactions from our members to the Audit Wales report, highlighting the problems the biodiversity duty on councils has on the ground.
#WeNeedNature #AngenNatur
Here's our response. It really is just symptomatic of the age old problem of governing for nature; duties, reports and tick boxes do very little. We need follow through, action and funding. #WeNeedNature #AngenNatur
If any journalists would like to write this up with further comment, drop us a DM.
Glad to see coverage of this important report from the @senedd.wales Climate Change, Environment & Infrastructure Committee 🌱🌿
