Extreme armour in the world’s oldest ankylosaur - Nature The ankylosaurian dinosaur Spicomellus afer possessed a tail weapon and uniquely elaborate dermal armour.

The long spikes may have evolved as sexual signals to attract mates, but later #ankylosaurs might have evolved more functional reduced (less spikey) armor as predation risk increased. Check out the @nature.com paper from Maidment, @richardjbutler.bsky.social, et al.! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Not a lot of screen time for #Ankylosaurs, #Velociraptor, and #Compsognathus. Since they're reptiles, it's likely that they had Pentastomids. A parasitic crustacean found in the respiratory tract of reptiles. Velociraptor had quill knobs on the head, so maybe a feather louse or two? (10/10)
