Anne & Samantha
Day
Anne and Samantha Day which takes place two times a year in the summer and winter solstices is dedicated to Anne Frank and Samantha Smith for the positive impact they had on American schoolchildren.

Samantha Smith, who became known as "America's youngest goodwill ambassador," because on November 1982, she sent a letter to the Soviet leader, Yuri Andropov, asking him if he was going to launch a nuclear war with the United States. "Are you going to vote to have a war or not?" she pressed. April 26, 1983. Andropov wrote about how he did not want to start a war, and that summer he invited Smith and her family to visit the Soviet Union.

Generations were moved by the words recorded in the diary of the young Jewish child, Anne Frank. Weeks after receiving a red checkered diary for her 13th birthday, her family and her father's employees families were forced into hiding. This was the year 1942.
The family survived hiding in the empty room at the back of her fathers company house. It was here that Anne wrote regularly. Her diary would become a place of relief when despair was overwhelming.

It is important to remember that although both girls were faced with tough circumstances, they helped to change the world by remaining optimistic for peace between nations.
