Arnett Cobb, a powerhouse tenor saxophonist, delivers fiery blues and jump blues on *Just Like That*. Raw energy and soulful phrasing define this essential album.

Last one of the day. Here’s an original mono pressing of “Movin’ Right Along” by Arnett Cobb from 1960 on Prestige.

Funky Butt Chic - About a week or so ago, someone in one of the many vinyl collecting groups I post in hepped me to the fact that there was a late period David Stone Martin cover for saxophonist Arnett Cobb. I figured I'd never find a copy out here as its on the small indie label Progressive Records (originally run out of Tifton, Georgia). Butt... sometimes the collecting stars align and there at Amoeba I found it for just a fiver. Cobb is not my favorite sax player. And the title track is more aligned with the old sense of the word (a straightforward blues) than the same-titled 1972 Charles Kynard soul-jazz B-side to the hit comedy 45 "Convention '72" (which I only know about because I had it as a kid)... Butt... the cover here is one of the better of DSM's later works, a time when his hands were not quite as assured as they had been in his younger years (1940s / 50s).
