That’s an interesting history! Prof Carenza Lewis has led numerous urban/suburban/village projects where people dig test pits, with the aim of understanding just these sorts of pottery and what they indicate about settlement patterns. There are lots of ‘how to’ online resources #AskAnArchaeologist

Of course, and there are new discoveries every year. Look out for local conferences put on by the Societies and the CBA Group covering your area. Even well-known sites throw up unknowns features, like when crop marks develop in perfect conditions! #AskAnArchaeologist
