This week was chaos, so I missed engaging in basically every #askeditor session, but I'm scrolling through them all now and just wanted to give a shot out to the #revpit editors for being so generous with their time and knowledge. It is greatly appreciated. ✨️❤️🙌

Hi! Off the top of my head, Butter by Asako Yuzuki and Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell. #RevPit #AskEditor

I reread the story to start editing, I have a better sense of how the pacing needs to be adjusted. Having CPs and beta readers can also be helpful b/c they will already have this distance from your story and read it with fresh eyes. Hope this helps! #RevPit #AskEditor

For strangers-to-friends-to-lovers I prefer a slower pace that focuses on the romantic leads getting to know each other and building trust—sharing interests, doing activities and spending time together, etc. That to me makes the friendship part feel earned before

Agents, editors, and readers must connect to your character, care about them, and understand their status quo before things hit the fan. So, make sure to create that connection in opening pages. 6/6 #RevPit #AskEditor

Second, on the craft side, I feel like querying authors have this perspective that they need to get the inciting incident within the first five pages and hit the ground running right away. Yes, we need intrigue and action, but… 5/? #RevPit #AskEditor

Has the agent made deals in your genre? If not, have agents at the agency made deals in your genre? Do they have experience reading the genre and know the market? You want someone who will sell your book. 4/? #RevPit #AskEditor

I think it’s very important to reflect on what you want in an agent before you get to the point of getting an offer. Research a ton. 3/? #RevPit #AskEditor

So, I was previously represented before signing with Ciara. Surviving the trenches twice and my past experiences taught me a lot. One of the biggest pieces of advice I see a lot that I don’t fully agree with is to query every agent who asks for your genre. 2/? #RevPit #AskEditor

I love this question. So fun. Okay, I have two answers I want to share 1/? #RevPit #AskEditor

If you have a character that isn’t super likable, the way to make readers care is to give them a relatable trait or struggle. If readers can connect, there’s a chance they’ll stick around. So, I would look at your MC and bring out their humanity and give them relatable flaws. 2/2 #RevPit #AskEditor

Interesting question. I don’t necessarily think that the likability is the issue here. I think it’s the relatability. 1/2 #RevPit #AskEditor
