Lee was mid-bite again, so Vanda wasn’t expecting an immediate answer. Still, he appeared to mull it over a little longer before responding. “Suppose it’s more like sisters in arms—the village is sort of a familial unit.” He went back to shoveling another bite of rice into his mouth, eating like someone was going to take it from him, chewing it before continuing. “They kinda lumped me in by extension.”
Lumped in by extension? Maybe she had more in common with Lee than just their current run of luck. She thought to ask him to elaborate on that, but decided she was prying enough as it was.
“Are they bad cooks?” Vanda asked.
“Most of them. Kimyo seems to think choking someone with rice is the same merit as getting them into a chokehold on the mat.”
