It was based on the Jules Verne 1865 novel “From the Earth to the Moon”.The fifteen minute silent film features space travel by a large cannon, moon creatures called Selenites, their king, large mushrooms, earth rise, a splash down return, and many Méliès camera tricks. “A Trip to the Moon” stars Georges Méliès as the bearded Professor Barbenfouillis, dancers from the Théâtre du Châtelet as cannon attendants, cabaret singer Bleuette Bernon as Phoebe the lady in the crescent moon, and acrobats of the Folies Bergère as the moon creatures, Selenites.
