Something winding and barbed and grotesque like the Dark’s writhing thorns hooks his heart, binding his bones and poisoning his blood. He’s thought about it a lot over the last fifteen years. There is no justice. No gods remain to punish the wicked. There is only the yawning void of nothingness, the siren’s call of utter destruction. That’s it. He circles the word—once, twice, three times. Revenge. Revenge. Revenge.
