AWS Secrets Manager announces managed external secrets Today, AWS Secrets Manager announces the launch of managed external secrets, a feature that offers default enabled automatic rotation for your third party Software-as-a-service (SaaS) secrets. You also get an option to choose from multiple different rotation strategies that are supported by your SaaS provider, without the overhead of rotation Lambda function creation, or management. With this launch, you can secure your SaaS secrets with AWS Secrets Manager with a pre-defined secret format, as prescribed by your SaaS provider. This launch also includes an https://docs.aws.amazon.com/secretsmanager/latest/mes-onboarding/secrets-manager-mes-onboarding.html, for any SaaS provider to be listed as a partner. This would allow partners to offer their customers prescriptive guidance around managing their secrets, reducing the customer overhead for managing secrets. At launch, managed external secrets feature is available for 3 listed partners — Salesforce, BigID and Snowflake. GetSecretValue now supports up to 10,000 requests per second and DescribeSecret supports 40,000 requests per second. This integration simplifies IAM authentication for Amazon EKS when retrieving secrets from AWS Secrets Manager or parameters from AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store. With this new capability, you can manage IAM permissions for Kubernetes applications more efficiently and securely, enabling granular access control through role session tags on secrets. ASCP is a plugin for the industry-standard Kubernetes Secrets Store CSI Driver. It enables applications running in Kubernetes pods to retrieve secrets from AWS Secrets Manager easily, without the need for custom code or restarting containers when secrets are rotated. The AWS EKS Pod Identity, streamlines the process of configuring IAM permissions for Kubernetes applications in a more efficient and secure way. Previously, ASCP relied on IAM Roles for Service Accounts (IRSA) for authentication.
