A really good tutorial…Bill Oyster discusses the double haul, why you might want to incorporate it into your fly fishing game, as well as the simplest way he knows how to learn the #doublehaul.
Watch it. You will learn something very useful.

Took my 9’ 6wt South Bend 359 bamboo rod out for a wade on the Huron River today. Saw some deer, a blue heron, an osprey, and caught 7 smallies and a rock bass on a Deer Hair Damsels, a Mickey Finn, and a Muddler Minnow. Beautiful day on the river. #bambooflyrod #flytying #bassonthefly #flyfishing
Take a break, and watch a beautiful short film: “Bamboo rod builder Kakuhiro Nonaka says that the Adogawa River basin, which he calls his "home river," is home to unique traditional nature worship.”

Starting a full rebuild of a 7-foot 2/1 Horrocks-Ibbotson “Tonka Prince” #bambooflyrod . Bent ferrule, pronounced set in the tip, ridged grip, failing varnish, faded/dirty plastic reel seat. Stripped off all the hardware and varnish, removed almost all of the set, ready for varnish. #flyfishing
New-to-me vintage 8 1/2-ft 3/2 Abercrombie & Fitch bamboo fly rod. Not much to go on as far as year, model, or which company made it for A&F, but all four sections are perfectly straight and aligned, the windings and cane are solid, and it’s aesthetically sharp as can be. #flyfishing #bambooflyrod
From The Fly Shop: The History of Winston and Bamboo. “Lew Stoner developed the ground-breaking hollow-fluted fly rod. This invention would bring the attention of tournament casters as well as fellow anglers.”

Bamboo shavings on a bench carved from bamboo
A nearly finished bamboo fly rod in hand at the workbench
Building a bamboo fly rod requires skills, tools, patience, and more finger-strength than you can imagine!
The transformation from a culm of bamboo to a (nearly) finished fly rod is a lesson that determination and hope go hand-in-hand.
“Imagine the fish you’ll catch.”

A wonderful short film about Kakuhiro Nonaka, a bamboo fly-rod builder from Kyoto, Japan. I have a simply beautiful 7’3” 3/4wt 5 piece (4 sections w 1 extra tip) Kakuhiro that is a perfect backcountry mountain-stream trout/char rod. Enjoy…
