Even in her moment of sympathy, Siobhan leaned out the window to eye how difficult the jump would be. Ash snapped her back with a frantic wave and a pointed jab of their head at the door. Siobhan puffed her cheeks, rolled her eyes, and resigned herself to the interruption. She plastered her face with a forced smile and opened the door. "Heyyy, Mom…"

Rolan paused with his fork in the air. “Yes, but…we’re eating?”
Gale was already up from the table and rifling through a messy bookshelf. “Best to capture the thought while it’s present. Where is it?…”
Rolan sighed, set down his fork, and pulled a neatly folded sheet from an interior pocket. He crossed the room to hand it to Gale.
The older wizard’s eyes lit up as he examined the vibrant seascape sketched in colored pencil. “You drew this? It’s…”
“Cal drew it. Art isn’t one of my many talents, unfortunately.”
“Well, he has an eye for color,” Gale remarked, as his hand found the spine of a teal and gold book. “Do you have the runes as well?” Gale held out his hand and motioned for the other information while scanning through the book.
“Patience,” Rolan chided, but produced another sheet from his robe, this one sketched with a circle of inscrutable symbols. The tiefling watched Gale expectantly as he flipped pages, holding each drawing next to the book’s illustrations for comparison. After a long silence filled with Gale’s “hmm’s” and “aah’s”, Rolan interrupted. “Are you going to enlighten me?”
“Yes…” Gale said, still lost in thought. “Look here.” He pivoted to stand side by side with Rolan, holding the book open.
A sudden thrill grabbed Rolan’s heart at the inadvertent brush of the other man against his arm. He fought the urges that raced into his mind and tried to look focused.
You’re here for the research, that’s it. Pay attention!
