The main subject of the image of mount Garibaldi in British Columbia. Its upper reaches are heavily laden with snow, which is bathed in a striking golden-pink light, a clear indicator of the low-angle sun. The snow coverage is not uniform; rugged, dark rocky outcrops and deep crevices are visible beneath the snow, highlighting the mountain's imposing geological structure. The texture of the snow appears varied, from smooth slopes to rougher, wind-swept areas.

High Above the Peaks – A View Worth Sharing

There’s something humbling about soaring high above the mountains — witnessing nature from a perspective that few ever truly experience. On a recent flight over the rugged beauty of British Columbia, I looked out the window and was greeted by a breathtaking scene: endless snow-covered peaks stretching to the horizon, shrouded in a misty veil of clouds, with one perfect opening where the sun beamed through and lit up the mountaintops below.

With no time to reach for my professional gear, I pulled out my iPhone 14 Pro Max and captured the scene as it unfolded — a spontaneous, unplanned moment of raw beauty. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best camera is simply the one in your hand when nature decides to put on a show.

The contrast of the soft, drifting clouds and the sharp, snow-draped ridges below created a surreal, almost dreamlike view. As a nature photographer, these fleeting moments are the heart of what I do — glimpses of wild, untouched places that stir the soul and remind us how incredible this planet truly is.

Being able to preserve this scene and now share it with all of you is why I love what I do. Whether I’m hiking through forests, standing in the cold waiting for the perfect light, or even flying high above the earth — I’m always seeking those moments that speak without words.

Landscape. A narrow, deep valley, with the road winding down from the slope on the upper right, visible again below cutting through the evergreen forest. Hills on both sides drop steeply towards the valley, not seen. In the distance are more mountains, blue fading into haze. In the foreground, yellow-flowering goldenrods grow on roadside gravel. One tall, bare snag stands alone on the nearby sidehill.

Near the top of the road dropping down into the Bella Coola valley, a drop of 1,500 metres. New blog post: wanderinweeta.blogspot.com/2025/02/disg... #Mountains #BCMountains #Geology #Memoir #BellaCoola
