New fence with now quiet Ash the Lab. All materials and special tools moved to site via cargo bike and trailer. 144 BF of 5/8"x6" cedar. 320Lbs of concrete mix. 4@ 4x4x8'. 6 @ 2x4x6'. 1 box deck screws. 1 100 lb gas auger.

In lighter news, the fence project is done. Looks good and reduces the excessive greetings by Ash the Lab of neighbors. All materials and rental tools moved by cargo bike/trailer.

On a lighter note. Who needs a car? 5 hp power auger, 6 inch auger bit and accessories. Just one cargo bike trailer. Trip was 7 miles out and back. Unfortunately there’s no electric auger to rent.

Who needs a car? Another fence project. That means more lumber. Hailing 3 8’ 4”x4” posts. Not a heavy load but awkward. Spent 15 mins. answering the yardman’s questions about the bike, trailer, lifestyle and economics related to being car free.

Digging back through the builds created at BenBuilt Workshop. Here's an oldie (2019). A Schwinn frame, Burly tow bar and custom body. The top has gone through many iterations, Mylar to light plywood. Good for 200# or 3 Labradors.

The upper sides are 1" round galvanized EMT. The corner bits were bored out with a 1 1/8" fosner bit and a drill press. It's all bolted together with stainless steel metric fasteners. The side plates and floor are birch ply with 4 coats of polyurethane. Customer wanted Matte black. Metal is primed with an etching primer and Rustoleum Camouflage black spray. The mast at left mounts the red strobe light from Super Bright LEDs. Tires are rated E-25 to work with the e-bike tow vehicle's speed limit. GVW is about 125 pounds. Not counting the Nomad frame (silver) the project cost about $350.

Traile rides ever so slightly nose up. You can zoom in on the hitch setup.

The Burley axle hitch bolts up just aft of the rear axle using the mount point for the pegs. In this case we've used the peg and its bolt for attachment.

The Specialized Globe haul has very wide rear dropouts. This makes the trailer sit far to the left. The tow bar has been shortened by 2 1/4". That may improve things. If not I'll build a custom hitch mount to wrap around the rear wheel to center things up.

Cycling is how I get around, trips to the hardware store, Lumberyard, grocery store, beach etc. Cargo includes 1-3 70# Labradors with toys, towels and high pressure hoses. Schlepping 3 Labs etc required upgrading to a Spicy Curry.

Building bike trailers opens up the imagination. A recent build is a double Stand Up Paddle board mover. The boards are arranged flat in hopes of reducing the effect of cross winds. It tows straight loaded and unloaded in light breezes.
