2011 Locarno FotP and 2019 Venice Days, Philippine-born, now US-based Isabelle Sandoval presents her fourth Moonglow at Rotterdam #bigscreen comp after a wip in HAF. The tribute to masters is undeniable, but the script remains too loose and the self-centred result ends up resembling an empty wish.

A long, mainstream offering, sweet and sometimes heavy, the film nevertheless manages to hold the viewer's attention, like the opening film of an Asian festival.

Following his debut in London and Busan in 2020, Bangladeshi director Rezwan Shahriar Sumit presents a catchy and colorful Master in Rotterdam #bigscreen comp. An impressive first hour, but unfortunately the third part of the political rise and fall is more clumsy, costing him greater exposure.

After a Belgian doc at 2017 DokLeipzig and a second at CPH:DOX in 2021, Volkan Üce presents his third, 2m², at Rotterdam #bigscreen comp for CAT&Docs. By shifting towards mockumentary, this uninspired portrait loses its power without necessarily gaining in effectiveness, either in Belgium or Turkey.

2017 Locarno and then at 2019 Orizzonti with shorts, Scottish Sean Robert Dunn presents his debut The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford at Rotterdam #bigscreen comp for Charades. Flatly directed, not even saved by Peter Mullan's tired charm or its numerous endings, 20 minutes would have been enough.
