Most people know about Tulsa's Black Wall Street, once a powerhouse of black wealth, education, and enterprise before it was destroyed by a white mob in nineteen twenty one. But here's what they don't tell you tell. Elsa was not the only one. Many black towns and communities existed all over the US and over and over. They will burn down, flooded or buried by mobs, governments and policies that couldn't stand to see black success. Take Rosewood, Florida. In nineteen twenty three, a white mob torched the town after a false accusation. Hundreds fled homes and businesses reduced to ash or Elaine, Arkansas, where in nineteen nineteen hundreds of black sharecroppers organizing for fair pay were killed In Georgia, Oscar Bill was wiped off the map. It's land now lies beneath Lake Lanier in New York. Seneca Village, once a peaceful black community, was seized and demolished to make way way for Central Park. These were not isolated events.
