Kiriya gave Genya the rank of Blood Hashira shortly after the fall of Kibutsuji. While he is unable to partake in helping with Hashira Training lessons as he is still unable to master actual breathing techniques, he makes for an interesting, if not intimidating, sparring partner that much like his own married partner is near impossible to beat. Needless to say, he gives a good glance into fighting a demon, his Consumption abilities quicker and easier to call upon since absorbing the blood of Kokushibo. When Gyomei took in two younger slayers, he kept an eye out for them, even attempting, though awkwardly, to form more familial bonds. This attempt was not easy, but deemed easier than the shaky ground he and Sanamei remain in.

When Gyomei was deemed officially missing, he spoke outwardly against Kiriya in claiming him deceased, even verbally bashing on the newly appointed Stone Hashira for accepting his role. While his own sons disagree in the action, Genya still attempts to pull information on what happened to Gyomei from any demon he can get his hands on.
