It was absolutely brilliant to see those Bracteate from around 400 AD today in Jelling. Especially the last one almost made me cry: it's the oldest inscription of the name Wodan/Odin ever found, as far as I know.

It was found in Vindelev, Denmark, in 2020.

A small gold bracteate is held in a gloved hand, the blue colour of the glove forms a nice background to the vivid gold of the bracteate. There is a short runic sequence along the upper left-hand rim of the bracteate. The central motif depicts a figure (head in profile) above a four-legged animal, and some other ornamental motifs.

Daily dose of #runes: The inscription on this sixth-century gold #bracteate from Fredrikstad, Østfold has been read in different ways, such as u͡duuz or h͡duuzi. But the direction is not clear, and it is uncertain which shapes and lines might actually belong together. #runology
