Here with Dilated Scalewort, Frullania dilatata. Probably the most common Essex leafy liverwort, alongside Metzgeria furcata (the Forked Veilwort, pictured alongside from a different location).

Two photos, a close-up left, and a general shot right, of bright green moss growing on top of a wooden post. The right hand photo shows that the post is surrounded by plastic netting once intended to protect a sapling tree, now gone.
A Feather-moss, maybe Brachythecium rutabulum, in Wandlebury Woods near #Cambridge, atop a wooden post with plastic netting around what might have been a tree sapling. #MossMonday #BritishBryophytes
Review of 2024 - Finally my Favourite Moss & Lichen, some Beautiful Shining Hookaria (lucens) Moss in Ban-y-Gor (Wattle Wood) Lancaut Gorge Chepstow. Plus some super Giraffe Lichen Cladonia rangiformis Brown Hills Quarry Leics. Check out their long Giraffe's Neck! #BritishBryophytes #lichen
Porella platyphylla in Oxfordshire #BritishBryophytes
Three moss photos. First is a close-up of a moss cushion. Second shows moss growing from joints in a wall of irregular stone blocks with pointing. The third shows the tall wall with overhanging trees above the moss beside a pavement with a lamp-post. Malvern, Worcestershire.
Characteristic Malvern stone and pointing on a retaining wall with overhanging trees providing ideal habitat for Grey-cushioned Grimmia, Grimmia pulvinata, I think. #MossMonday #Britishbryophytes
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday #moss Bryum capillare, Capillary Thread-moss, I think, on Caldey Island, Wales, UK. The sea breezes have dried out the shoots until they resemble corkscrews with the leaves twisting in spirals. Happy to be corrected.
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday #moss Drying out Silky Wall Feather-moss, Homalothecium sericeum, I think, on town walls Tenby, Pembrokeshire, UK. Grains of sand can be seen blown from the beach. Always happy to be advised differently.
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday #moss A Polytrichum species, a Haircap moss, I think. Abundant in deciduous woodland near Monmouth, UK. If anyone can narrow down this ID I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday #moss Abundant on Hazel in woodland near Monmouth, UK is I think an Orthotrichum species. I have been wondering about O. pulchellum, Elegant Bristle-moss, but I'm very unsure. Help would be appreciated! Thank you.
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday #moss I've researched Grimmia and Orthotrichum sp here & eventually chosen O.diaphanum, White-tipped Bristle-moss. It's growing on a bench overlooking the River Severn at Lydney Harbour, Gloucestershire, UK. Happy to be corrected!
It's a while since I've gone #BonkersForBryophytes, so here we go, some Many-fruited Thyme-moss, Plagiomnium affine, in the grass in the grounds of Bethlem Hospital.
#BritishBryophytes
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday Seen at the top of the wall at Monmouth Quay, UK may be Soft-tufted Beard-moss, Didymodon vinealis. The wall is sometimes submerged, as shown, but is a dry edging to a flight of steps for most of the year. Happy to be corrected.
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday I think this is a Hypnum species, possibly H. resupinatum, Supine Plait-moss. The leaves point upwards and it looks silky. Capsules are a bit damaged but some have beaked lids. Happy to be corrected. On a fallen branch, near Monmouth, UK.
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday Seen on a lane-side fallen branch near Monmouth, UK is I think Wood Bristle-moss, Orthotrichum affine. The ridged, furrowed capsule can be seen, just about, if photo is enlarged. Happy to be corrected!
A photo of bright green cushons of moss growing between large irregular flints amongst which a tiny fern emerges.
Moss (Common Pincushion, Dicranoweisia cirrata, perhaps ๐ค) between flints on an old wall but photobombed by tiny Wall-rue, Asplenium ruta-muraria. Bury St Edmunds, #Suffolk. #FernFriday #BritishBryophytes
#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday Presumed Common Feather-moss, Kindbergia praelonga abundant on a damp, wooded bank near Monmouth, UK. Stem leaves triangular and a bit heart- shaped, tips turn outwards. Branch leaves more egg- shaped.
A college of photos of moss growing on two large logs lying on the ground.
Let sleeping logs lie! Moss covering old logs at Wadlebury near #Cambridge. Maybe Silky Wall Feather-moss, Homalothecium sericeum. ๐ค

#BritishBryophytes #MossMonday Presumed Catherine's Moss/Common Smoothcap, Atrichum undulatum on a steep and shady wooded bank near Monmouth, UK.
#MossMonday #BritishBryophytes Continuing my journey of moss discovery with I hope Bryum capillare, Capillary Thread-moss on top of a tombstone in Monmouth, UK. Thanks again to FB people for help and advice.
Big patches of Common Cord-moss aka Bonfire-moss, Funaria hygrometrica, at the site in Croydon's Shirley Hills where there was a fire in 2022.

Two close-up photos of a pale green feathery moss.
Lots of this moss on the chalk in Beds/Cambs/Northants WT East Pit reserve looking untidy but in fact Neat Feather-moss, Pseudoscleropodium purum, I think. #BritishBryophytes

#MossMonday #BritishBryophytes Intermediate Screw-moss, Syntrichia intermedia (now S. montana) on a landscaping boulder in Monmouth, UK. Thanks to people in FB group for confirming likely ID and updating scientific name.
Three photos of a clump of moss growing on top of a wall.
Pretty sure that this moss with pendulous capsules is Bryum argenteum, Silver-moss, but not sure if there's a differnt species below it (noticeable in middle photo). ๐ค
On top of the church-yard wall at Fen Ditton #Cambridge. #BritishBryophytes
#Nature #photogs and phone photogs, post your #fern photos with the hashtag #FernFriday to have it added to the Fern Fridays feed. No need to know the species. Just share pix of the ferns you enjoy seeing!
(Brits who like to ID ferns can also use #BritishBryophytes to join that feed.)
As most of my moss photos are an aside from what I take for #WildFlowerHour on Sundays I tend to use #MossMonday but I have a moss book arriving soon so perhaps I'll feel confident to use #BritishBryophytes too!
If you include both the hashtags #MossMonday and #BritishBryophytes in your posts they will appear in both feeds (if you want that is!)
Hi there, is the remember posts block still working? I did have it in my #BritishBryophytes feed and it was working fine as the second last one in my feed, but then I made some changes to the feed and now if I include that block the feed seems to only pick up random posts from 25 minutes ago!
I've added #MossMonday in as a hashtag that will be picked up by the #BritishBryophytes feed!
#MossMonday Hoping this is Common Tamarisk-moss, Thuidium tamariscinum on a woodland bank near Monmouth. Happy to receive advice/correction. Thanks in advance. #BritishBryophytes
#MossMonday #BritishBryophytes Springy Turf-moss, Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus I think in Monmouth Cemetery. Springy to walk on, star-like and with red stem visible in places. Happy to be corrected. TIA.
