Viewed in October 2019 in Paris, Broodthaers 'white cube' installation "Salle blanche" (a reconstruction from the 1968 original) was an “anti-museum and a museum as artwork” statement.

An art installation by Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers in the Centre Pompidou in Paris. It is a white cubic space with a wide entrance leading the eye to two black windows on the far wall. Written on all the white surfaces in black script are words in French related to art and the art world.

“Salle blanche” (White room) by Brussels based artist Marcel Broodthaers whose works navigate between words, objects and images. The Salle blanche is a reconstruction of a work the artist created in 1968 to question museum’s ‘classification’ practices as an “anti-museum and a museum as artwork”. Randomly scattered on the ‘white cube’ walls are words which evoke the art world through references to artworks and art-speak.
