Mark Ella was arguably the greatest rugby player of all time, and retired in his prime at 25. I'm not quite old enough to have watched him play.

In a Commom Hour, by Sita Walker
Set in an Australian high school, some moments were funny, familiar, and touching.
But it was very busy and frantic in other parts, with disturbing child abuse and mental health issues.
Moved at a frantic pace, but it needed to slow down and let the reader breathe.

The End is Always Near, by Dan Carlin
This book was a look at events which at the time would have felt world-ending.
It was very superficial, seemed poorly researched, and I was distracted throughout with the inane footnotes.
I'm sure Carlin's podcast is great, but his writing isn't for me.

Dark and dystopia gives away to slightly silly action in the last 3rd. A shame, as it turned a great book into a OK book.

Set aside a couple of hours and rather than clean the kitchen, read The Night of Baba Yaga by Otani Akira #bskybooks - this wee TikTok with the author was all I needed and two pages in to the novel I was happy to sip a jug of ginger tea and go on the novel's roller coaster while the tap dripped.

This book turns the story of the eruption into a lesson on the history, plate tectonics, and biogeography of the region.
