A view of the bunad (Norwegian folk costume) on a dress form in a sewing room with yellow walls and a striped gray carpet. This bunad was made at Husfliden Lillehammer sometime after 2012, so it's not particularly old. It is a Dovre Bunad, a design created about a hundred years ago, and associated with the Gudbrandsdal region, which is where my paternal grandmother's family is from. I have started alterations to make it fit me. Fortunately, these garments are made to be easy to alter – it is assumed that they will be passed down, or that the wearer might keep it for a long time, and adjust the fit as her body shape changes.
I got a bunad! Found gently used on ebay for (I think) a good price. Previous owner was a giantess, so alterations are underway. It's prettier in person than in the pics, and has good twirl!

I think this is a good size for the cuff. There will be button holes for silver cufflinks, cut horizontally below the embroidery.
I did a whole mass of embroidery these yesterday and today, I'm very very pleased with this progress!

I've framed up the actual fabric, after marking the center lines with basting thread. I'm starting with the kloster blocks. I don't know how big the cuffs are supposed to be. I guess I can decide myself 🤷♀️
The kloster blocks stitch up so quickly. Really fascinating.

#memademay2025 Day 6: Working on my #rogalandbunad these days, as the big day for wearing #bunad is coming up. My mother made this in 1980 and the silver ribbons and hardware was looking quite worn. So I guess it was time to renew those!

This is my Norwegian bunad (Telemark), not a very flattering garment, so many layers on a short person like me isn't good, but it is so pretty! Takes forever to get dressed, and I always think I'm stepping on it when I put on the black part, it is SO heavy!

Når man lover en fireåring å sy gamledagersøttendemaikjole er det litt uheldig å a) bare delvis vite hva man driver med og b) ikke ha sydd på 10 år og c) bare tørre å sy litt av gangen i frykt for senebetennelse. Helt hjemmesnekra ris for egen bak, men det blir vel ei råd med det.
