We passed Santa Barbara a bit ago, and now it's just a ride in the dark to LAUPT, before changing to Metrolink. So not much to see. If you want to check out prior train travelogues I did, we did the Empire Builder a couple months ago as #bunnybuilder so you can check that out. #coastbunny
Minneapolis skyline in the distance, past some trees and warehouses
A bunch of graffiti on an abandoned warehouse building.
St. Paul Union Station main building, with two metro transit green line trains in front of it. A skywalk is visible down the street
St. Anthony falls spillway and Mississippi Lock & Dam number 1.
After going through some of my old neighborhood and past some familiar running trails, our train journey is coming to an end in St. Paul's new Union Station. We gather up all our stuff, get our bags and say hello to Minneapolis.

Looking at the station from the street
The other view from the street
The front of the station with two green line trains
A green line train boarding
And we’re done! Welcome to Saint Paul! #bunnybuilder
The event space in the station
Looking toward the waiting room
Coming down the escalator to the street level
The station seems to be being used as event space in addition to for trains. There’s some public art as you head to baggage claim. #bunnybuilder
The view from the platform at Saint Paul
A view of the train
Looking at the station from the platform
The vaulted roof inside the station
We’re done with our journey: we deboard and climb to the station. #bunnybuilder
A promenade with a second level below
A bridge over the railroad from the mall
The end of the promenade
A view up a street to downtown St Paul
A two level promenade comes down to station level from Kellogg Mall. #bunnybuilder
An old stone wall
The science center
A tower belonging to telco provider Lumen
Infrastructure under a bridge
The final approach to Saint Paul involves skirting cliffs as we stay along the river. We pass the science center. #bunnybuilder
A freeway beside the tracks
A wide city street. Well. A stroad.
Past I-94 and over Snelling Ave. #bunnybuilder
A scale test car
Tucked away in a siding is a scale test car. They use these to confirm the accuracy of scales that weigh railroad cars. #bunnybuilder
Marie in a bunk, bathed in blue light.
Marie, Daria and Jill smile in a group selfie with the train in the background. We're only a little disheveled.
Mist hovers over fields across a double carriage road. Some trees peek out over the mist in the distance.
The sun rises over Minnesota fields and shines through the clouds. Train track is visible just in the frame.
After another night's sleep, we got up early to hug @jillithd.bsky.social on the platform as the train made a short stop. Good morning and welcome to Minnesota. Bunked top and bottom last night. Time to pack up, our #BunnyBuilder journey is almost at an end.
Railroad maintenance yard
More rail maintenance equipment
A yard full of cars including covered hoppers with potash
Now we’re in Minneapolis, but the process of getting to Saint Paul Union Depot is apparently taking a while. We’re creeping along. Still early. #bunnybuilder
A freight passes us in the morning light
We got up in time to walk out onto the platform at St Cloud to get a hug from @jillithd.bsky.social in the twilight (she and Marie both have pics but I don’t). Now, we’re coming into Minneapolis and we’ll skirt it until we get to St Paul. #bunnybuilder
Expect next updates from approximately Saint Cloud, MN! #bunnybuilder
The train tracks at Minot at night, the signals showing all red.
Grey and Theo watch the soccer match on the laptop.
Minot arrives well after dark and we walk up a hill past the library, which looks nice, to get diet drinks and snacks from a convenience store. We got here early and there's slack in the schedule; people order pizza or visit a bar. RIFC plays OCFC and it starts now, we put it on.

The flat iron steak, with vegetables and mashed potatoes.
A rolling plains hills view with dry grass, and a pond in the foreground mirroring the dramatic clouds in the sky.
A fracking well that has a stack on fire in the distance
The chicken, which is filled with some potato strings and has the same veggies as the other meal.
Dinner tonight was the better of the choices: I had chicken and Daria steak as the sun set over the hills. We have a room so each get wine. Met another St. Paul bound passenger. Lots of flaring wells in this part of North Dakota. Next stop: Minot, where we have an hour plus wait.

The moon over Minot ND
The best I could do on the moon with a cell phone and no tripod. #bunnybuilder
The end of the train, and a signal
Minot station from outside
Minot station from inside
Looking back our train from the head end
Back to the station. There’s plenty of time so I walked the length of the train too. #bunnybuilder
Sign outside Minot library: “Spark curiosity with our education kits!”
Convenience store
New city steps
The other side of city hall
A mile or so later, back to the station. The Minot library looks like they have a bunch of interesting programs focused on sharing resources in the community. Hit a mini mart and used some brand new steps the city built by the auditorium and city hall. #bunnybuilder
Our train on the platform
Minot station
A signaled diamond in Minot
Ever been to Minot? I only have on the train. Well, we have 85 minutes so we’re going for a walk. #bunnybuilder
More on the preserved Great Northern O-1 locomotive at Williston, if you’re curious. #bunnybuilder
A steam locomotive in a park
Looking at the sunset across a lake
We’re out of daylight. Did get to see Great Northern steam locomotive 3059, an O-1, another Philadelphia-built Baldwin and another sole survivor. It’s preserved in Williston ND. #bunnybuilder
A smattering of hills and trees out of the train car. The hills are very rocky.
A small oil pump with a few tanks and one pump jack.
More hills, taller this time, with some wispy clouds and birds.
We've almost run out of Montana and things are looking a little less flat as we are in Dinosaur 🦖 country. Some sipping wells and fracking wells in the distance. We'll lose an hour before I finish this message and cross into North Dakota. Time for dinner.

Fields and sky
An unusually shaped building which is a bar
The remains of the original alignment of US is in the foreground. US2 is just beyond it.
Formerly US2, now Indian Route 1
The fields end at the sky but the clouds are rippled. An interesting bar. The remains of the original alignment of US2. Eventually the old right of way shows up as an Indian road. Brockton MT #bunnybuilder
4 covered hoppers on a siding
An old painted sign for meadow gold milk
Cows are cute and all but they’re also delicious, says a streetside sign
A grain elevator
Glasgow, with a remnant of a dairy as well as feed mill humor evident as we stop. #bunnybuilder
The overhrade structure at a dam
A canal fed thanks to a dam
We see Vandalia Dam and Vandalia South Canal, remnants of this project, as we go. #bunnybuilder
The salted wildlife refuge, Bowdoin, was on land from the Milk River Project undertaken by the Bureau of Reclamation circa 1902. #bunnybuilder
We cross a bridge over a river
A swamp beside us
Salt collects in a wildlife refuge initially created with leftover water from irrigation
A river whose flood plain has less vegetation than the surroundings
Still here. The terrain is less visually exciting and there’s also not much around. We still have a fair bit of Montana left tho! #bunnybuilder
A mountain in Canada as seen from the train in Montana
A tree with whitish green leaves in a field..
Daria in the train car. She wears a tank top that says "I'm like an angel without wings" in capital letters.
Marie in the train car. She wears a strappy cami.
Montana is... not very interesting as far as stuff to see goes. You can see Canada's mountains for a little while. Lunch with another couple who is going to St. Paul. Saw a herd of cows munching on stuff in a grove of these trees. It's day 2 so it's time to change to new outfits 😁 #BunnyBuilder
Looks like we will meet the westbound Empire Builder at the next siding, Wagner! #bunnybuilder asm.transitdocs.com
