A seagull is flying over our ferry and accompanying us on our trip. The ride on the HSL ferry took around 15 minutes from the east side of Helsinki's Market Square to the main pier of Iso Mustasaari island, on the north shore of Suomenlinna.
Upon arrival on the island, the first building one sees (and later has to pass through) is the pink-plastered Jetty Barracks, the main gateway to the fortress. The building dominates the northern shoreline of Suomenlinna. It was built in 1868-70.
This photo was taken at Kustaanmiekka, the heavily fortified southernmost part of the historic island fortress complex of Suomenlinna in Helsinki, Finland.
For lunch on Suomenlinna, we went to "Café Silo" and had a quite tasty salmon quiche with a side salad and a cup of coffee. A welcome boost of energy before the ensuing walk around the island.
Throwback to May 2024, when on our first #Finland trip, we rode the ferry to #Soumenlinna, the inhabited sea fortress about 4 km southeast of the city center of #Helsinki. Add'l info in ALT texts.

Went to Ogawamachi for a light café lunch and a taiyaki, and then walked up to Ochanomizu, where I got a few more alcohol ink art supplies at the aptly-named “tools“ store.
