A trip to Dalston yesterday. As I had to be back home by late afternoon I sadly couldn’t stay to see #shahzadismaily playing at the wonderful #CafeOto in the evening - so I had to make do with a flying visit to look through the second-hand jazz vinyl. And have a coffee. And buy an Oto t-shirt.

A story about getting raped and then bullied for 12 years in the Stockholm new, experimental and electronic music and sound art scenes, seeing large swaths of my life destroyed, to this day.

Fylkingen and EMS are foul - please read my terrible story in Stockholm! This week there will be a so-called “Listening Bienalle” at SKH, run by Fylkingen members – about a third of whom have worked very hard and fairly successfully to destroy a lot of my life as a musician, sound artist and artistic researcher here. I see some of those names in association with this event. They should have called it: “Listening – to Rape and other Ostracization Victims Scream while we Kick Them in the Face – Bienalle!”. That would have been more accurate. Here is a super abbreviated version of a story that takes an hour or more to tell: I got raped in 2012 by a power-holder in the music scene here. He had power-holder friends who started harassing, bullying and fucking with me. THEY had power-holder friends who started fucking me about, and then * they * had power-holder friends, and so forth, and so on. Soon there was an ever increasing, never ending game of Kick the Dirty Foreigner Rape Victim going on. This has resulted in my being BANNED from Fylkingen(2022-2023) and EMS (2020), while the rapist’s friends welcomed him back to Fylkingen with open arms (after attacking me several times on the premises at EMS; the rapist was never even banned from there – they banned me instead!). Because the people who did this to me are power-holders at a vast swath of other organizations, I am also now very unwelcome on boards, concerts, spaces, festivals and publications I worked on for years including: Audiorama, Nutidamusik magazine, Cafe Oto, RadioArt.se, Edition Festival, FRIM, Tegen2, Sound of Stockholm festival, the EAM department at KMH, the Sound Studies department at KKH, Gotlands tonsätareskolan, and more. This situation continues to burn down vast swaths of my life to this very day, more than twleve (12) years later. Last spring I learned that someone I have never even met is sending people letters from the Fylkingen office claiming that it is “my choice” not to be at Fylkingen. This is a bald-faced lie, undoubtedly told to this person by some of the 35 or so Fylkingen members perpetrating this sickeningly violent, out of hand situation. I was overtly banned from there in late 2022/early 2023. Someone who was at the closed door meeting where that happened called me – from a private number (!!!) – to tell me I was officially banned, and vaguely threatened me about attending ANY Fylkingen event, on-site or off-site. Rather like a phone call from the Mafia … I am not at all the only person here who has had their lives torn down by this multi-pronged gang of assholes. Many people have contacted me over the last years with their own horrible stories of having the same shit perpetrated upon them by the very same people. These are NOT good or even safe places, for women, people of color, working class people, LGBTQ+ people or any other group of people that gets disproportionally affected when power-mongering goes awry. These organizations are awash in nepotism and corruption. When you collaborate or participate in any way whatsoever with Fylkingen or EMS, you allow these nasty things to infest your own space(s). Don’t debase yourself, your work or the organizations you work hard with by propping these terrible old dinosaurs up! Every, single time you lend your presence in ANY way to ANYTHING at Fylkingen or EMS (as well as some of the above organizations, but especially these two) you are participating in the ostracization! Whether you like it or not, if you collaborate, present work, join or otehrwise participate in Fylkingen or EMS, you (yes, YOU) are actively excluding me and others who have been subjected to similar treatment from the music and arts environments here.
