Here to repeat something I heard @anisekstrong.bsky.social say at #CAMWS though. In answer to what's something most people don't know about your field: "That even in ancient Greece and Rome there were at least as many girls born as boys."

I often think all academics must be on BlueSky, but now I am disappointed to find that the authors of most of the fascinating papers I heard at #CAMWS are nowhere to be found. We've just learned that OUP author Susan Shapiro has won the 2025 Ladislaus J. Bolchazy Pedagogy Book Award from #CAMWS for her work "Latin Redux: A Second-Year Grammar Review" published in 2024. Congratulations!

Meanwhile, it's been a great #CAMWS so far - lots of time with friends, some great papers (lots on pedagogy!), and I'm personally pretty delighted that my friends here will get to meet the upside-down ziggurat building that houses my department.

A preview of my #CAMWS paper next week - yes, indeed, it turns out that Kelce, Henry, Allen, & Jefferson sent eidolons of themselves to fight in the Pepsi Cola-sseum, which raises the kayfabe aspects to 11 as well as further undermining the point of the original ad.

#CAMWS was my very first academic conference. It was a great experience and I'm really happy to be back after 8 years.

My credit card has gotten a ton of mileage today. Flights and hotel booked for #CAMWS 2019. Getting excited! Maybe I should focus on surviving #AIASCS first, though.
