It was Carl Linnaeus named these little chaps ‘Galanthus nivalis’, a crazy mash-up of Greek and Latin which literally means ‘milk flower of the snow’. Among the first bulbs to emerge each year from the wintry ground, snowdrops traditionally symbolise hope for the future.
