A striking sandstone monolith rises above the cliffs and up into the sky at right. The viewpoint of the photo is from the bottom of a wash bordered by a vertical wall of multilayered rock and dirt. The sky is mostly clear.

A closeup of the wall of the canyon shows interweaving seams of harder rock with vertical striations. There's some odd crossbedding going on that cuts across horizontal layers.

Another couple from Caprock Canyons for #Stunday. The red, sandy soil and cliffs there are punctuated by thick seams of what I take to be calcite. Perhaps a geologist can comment further. (From 2007)
