From September 16 to 27, 2013, CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen took part in the European Space Agency’s CAVES 2013 training expedition. CAVES (or Cooperative Adventure for Valuing and Exercising human behaviour and performance Skills) is an opportunity for astronauts/cavenauts to get advanced experience on Earth in some of the situations they'll face during the extremes of a long-duration space mission. Hansen is currently on a 10-day moon fly-by mission as part of Artemis II.

The NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO) expedition is a space mission simulation and a training session in an extreme environment. It takes place in the Aquarius laboratory, which is anchored 19 metres underwater, off the coast of Florida.
This underwater adventure is typically about 10 days long. It was designed to train astronauts to live and work together as a team. From September 8 to 14, 2014, CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen (img-right) took part in NASA's NEEMO 19 mission. (information via the Canadian Space Agency) (photo credit: CSA)

Jeremy Hansen, the Canadian currently aboard Orion, previously participated in 2 deep-space simulations:

ESA's CAVES program in Sardinia, Italy, in 2013, living underground for 6 days
and
NASA's NEEMO 19, in 2014, living on the ocean floor, off Key Largo, Florida, for 7 days
