CBC Ideas program on human empathy
I was today years old when learning of what some in social conservative influencer circles call “toxic empathy” or “suicidal empathy”. The worst part was hearing it used to justify selective empathy for “the right kinds of people” to justify greed & the worst kinds of behavioural isms.

#CBCIdeas is rebroadcasting via St.John's, NL stream, Tuesday's show & this year's www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/... #ReithLectures
Indeed, eh?
"These days" & "now",...
& what's "better anticipation"?
What's "Anticipatory Intelligence"?
& the tools, infrastructure we're passing-on to "Early Career", eh?
🙏✊
As it happens, then, #CBCIdeas broadcast Monday www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/...
"Dear #CBCRadio #CBCIdeas ... ", indeed, eh? "This last decade, these last 15+yrs, & any/our ability to listen, to tell stories, to convey what's been lived, learned, heard, felt,... & what is 'anticipatory intelligence', too, much less with these 'mediums we use',...

&, "How can we make better collective choices & lead effectively when the systems we work in are complex, unpredictable, & constantly changing?", indeed, eh?
@craignorriscbc.bsky.social Stories today, "wills", "end of life matters",... #CBCIdeas last week, & "Home", eh?

"Practice, practice, Practice!" - Hope
Because it's not always exactly "certain & fitting" what happens "in the real world" as any of us "work to earn our way over span of career", eh?
#CBCIdeas "in the afternoon" yesterday,...

"In the aftermath of the First World War, French philosopher Simone Weil had a solution to address the fascism that surged across Europe: abolish political parties. She argued political parties were not democratic, they were dangerous." So yes, that what Monday's #CBCIdeas is about.
Another signpost in my #CBCIdeas exploration. The on-air title is "Paranormal Programming", but the topic given in the podcast feed is "We believe in artificial intelligence the same way we believe in ghosts."
"There's a distinction between blaming a player and blaming a game. Many people think they can make the world better just by changing the players. But if the game stays the same, we have the same problem."
Lewis Gordon talks philosophy in a Newfoundland pub. #CBCIdeas
More than half of the working satellites are now owned by one private company, SpaceX. They are designed for rapid deployment and obsolescence, and by design there are a LOT of them. There are benefits, but here, astrophysicist Aaron Boley talks about the problems. #CBCIdeas
This panel discussion hosted by the University of British Columbia begins with the now well circulated statistic that loneliness and social isolation has the health impact of smoking 15 cigarettes a day, which makes me suspect I'm a two pack a day man. #CBCIdeas
@katebeaton.bsky.social I've been re-upping share of #CBCIdeas program this last week,...
Hearing this week's #PhilosophersZone, too, piqued a more active recall,...🤷♂️

Just wanted to thank you for "Ideas", for your work, for "being stranger" in all the ways you do, too!
Jake Tapper on CBC's Ideas today (catching the replay right now) promoting his stupid book while basically burning his journalism card.
No honest reporter sits on such an important story until they can maximize profit off it. Fucking gross.

As Yale professor Marci Shore told #CBCIdeas audience (aired May 22), it's easy to win when you don't care about anything or what you destroy doing it.
She made the point about Putin, but also Trump.
She's continuing her fight from Canada.

Listened to #CBCIdeas program on one of my favourite newspapers, The Inverness Oran. Lovely to hear about its history and deep community…1/2

The history of the word "Horse" has a linguistic similarity across cultures and across periods... if I was a reader I would read this book. As an audiophile I listen to #cbcideas it's like having an expert read to you in your own language. 🇨🇦
As always, it's an honour to speak to the legendary Nahlah Ayed and #CBCIdeas -- this time about my new book, Chasing Shadows (chasingshadowsbook.ca)
The show was recorded at an event at the #torontopubliclibrary in front of a live audience 👇

Sado-populism = make sure everyone hurts. But some people can be made to hurt others. The ones who don't get hurt so much get (have) to watch. The master controls who watches, who hurts, and who watches and hurts. Trump is a Sado-Populist. ~ #cbcIdeas

Honestly, it's the #CBCIdeas selection & broadcast for the 28th which motivates this share - www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/...
"Landscapes" & the choices we make, what we "take-in", what we can notice, what we pay attention to,... & those returns of time, of energy, of "light" nourishing "tomorrows" again!
Techno Utopia #cbcIdeas is vital listening. The second half is core to my beliefs. We are already one, even without uploading to digital platforms.
