He pays no mind to the noise from the outside, the screams and cries, the clang of steel on steel, the roaring of dragons. Despite the noise it is quiet. The constant psionic buzz around his mind is gone and it almost feels as if time has halted. As if the dragon's fire not only burned the larvae in their basin, but burned away the tethers to the other minds, too. It is... unsettling. Freeing. The Mind Flayer blinks, once, twice. Closes his eyes. Waiting for the familiar shiver over his mind. No compulsion comes. No order. There is chaos.
Hosts falling out of their pods, some dead, some barely alive. Their minds tiny specks of energy, slowly fizzling out. His body moves, quickly. Tentacles wrapping around the head of a half-dead elf. Teeth breaking skull with ease. Feasting. Memories flooding his mind. The elf reasing a book, writing names on a paper for an unborn child. One draws the Illithid's attention. Kingsley. Kingsley drops the husk of the elf. Sated. For the time being.
