Imho, Liberal democracy is a term which signifies a mindset that turns a blind eye to the deficiencies of the Party/electoral system; easy route to the top for narcissists and psychopaths, easily corrupted by Big business (and other nations).

You need to go deeper into "the people in charge" bit. Most will interpret that as meaning "elect a different Party to government".
My thinking is we need to cut off the links to power of the oligarchs, depose the whole political classes.

Absolutely this. The only thing we can do within the existing imperfect system is to support @zackpolanski.bsky.social & the bold @greenparty.org.uk. However, we can do other things alongside. Support local #citizensassemblies, resist corporates by reducing oil use, buying local & independent.

Real democracy means sharing power.
