One of the great things about visiting new places is seeing how the clouds form differently. Yesterday, which happened to be #CloudAppreciationDay on BlueSky, Iceland showed how it likes to have 2 different weather systems going at the same time.

I heard today is #CloudAppreciationDay. Here's photo of my favorite clouds, Mammatus. I took this picture in Texas while storm chasing with some friends. You can sometimes see them after a strong storm is pulling away.

A wide panorama photo of clouds around and over Mount Hood, Oregon. There are many colors and textures of clouds. I'll start at the top of the image. Dark and light grey bands of clouds cross the entire image from left to right. Below these are some small islands of dark clouds on the far left in front of brightly lit clouds with a soft light gold hue, which is the predominate color of the clouds in this image that are lit by the sun directly. From the left to the middle, in the background are several big pillowy clouds until we get to the upper center of the image, where there is a large hump shaped clouds, gently curving over the entire summit of Mount Hood. The summit is not visible, as the cloud covers it completely light a big soft blanket. Toward the right there is a gap in the cloud cover where very light blue sky can be seen all the way to the right edge. Soft linear horizontal streamers, and contrasting dark background clouds appear below the blue patch. Just below the cloud cap over the summit is a narrow horizontal opening through which some of the upper flanks of the mountain can be seen where dark rock and white snow fields show through briefly. Below these upper features, and running from left to right all the way across the image is a dark, horizontal, tumbling bank of continuous cloud with lightly contrasting features of folds, and sub-banks within it. The entire dark cloud bank is much darker at it's bottom all the way across. Below this cloud bank is a broad opening in the clouds showing the wide bas of the mountain and rocky patches contrasting with snow banks reaching toward dark lower mountains in the foreground of it. Only a few spots of direct sunlight hit the mountains lower flanks. At the very lower right corner is the very top of the Portland airport control tower, with windows and antennae visible.
For #CloudAppreciationDay, I dug into the archives from 2018 for a very memorable formation over #MountHood! I just happened to be near the airport & had the camera!
