They were manufactured and assembled at the works using nuts and bolts before being dismantled and the parts packed into crates to be shipped to their customers, where they were re-assembled using rivets.

Established in Bridgeton in 1875, Alley and MacLellan moved to this site in 1880. Despite being several miles from the nearest possible launch site on the Clyde, the company produced almost 500 small ships and boats.
