A breathtaking mosaic of the Cygnus constellation in the Milky Way galaxy, showcasing the North America Nebula (NGC 7000), the Pelican Nebula (IC 5070), the Northern Coal Sack Nebula, and the bright star Deneb.  This image, created from 400 hours of exposure over a decade, reveals intricate details of interstellar dust and gas clouds, spanning 28x18 degrees.  Deneb, a prominent star also part of the Summer Triangle and Northern Cross asterisms, is visible in the left of the image.

Happy Holidays from the Harvard Plate Stacks! Even to those on the naughty list. In the southern sky there is a dark #nebula called the #coalsacknebula as seen on plates AX01084 from 1925 and AM03487 from 1905.
