The Government of India has unveiled plans to build India’s first offshore airport on an artificial island near Mumbai, a landmark move in mega infrastructure development. The project aims to ease congestion at existing airports, support growing air traffic demand, and position Mumbai as a next-generation global aviation hub. If executed, the offshore airport will use advanced coastal engineering, land reclamation, and resilient design to operate safely over the sea—similar to world-class island airports—marking a giant leap in India’s urban and aviation infrastructure.
