Draw Steel Promptober ‘25 Day #24: Colossal Beast Scale the Colossus Montage Challenge A beast of titanic size is on its way to town. The only way to stop it is to get to its head and succeed at an extremely difficult 6-round Complete the Action encounter, but climbing the creature’s limbs is harder than scaling a mountain — and a whole ecosystem for the heroes to contend with has developed on its back. Inspired by @fluttersprite’s rules for Montage Challenges. Rather than accumulating successes, the players must choose which Threats they want to negate and which Opportunities they want to claim before the two rounds are over. Players tackle Threats and Opportunities in any order, the same way they tackle challenges in a normal Montage Test. Tasks with multiple icons can be tackled multiple times, negating/claiming one instance of the Threat/Opportunity each time. Locked tasks (🔒) can’t be attempted at all until the named task is completed at least once first. THREATS Fend Off Parasites [2]: Each hero loses two Recoveries. Many beasts of the wild have taken to living off the colossus’s hide, and they don’t take kindly to intruders. Repair Arcane Seals [3]: Reduce the number of rounds required to Complete the Action by 1. The colossus has been kept dormant for centuries thanks to the work of ancient heroes who placed arcane seals all around its body. Now, those seals have weakened, and repairing them is the only way to slow the beast. OPPORTUNITIES Explore the Beastscape [Hard]: Find a trinket. You’re not the first adventurers to scale the colossus, and you may not be the last... Gather Rare Reagents: Find an item prerequisite for crafting a leveled treasure. 🔒 Fend Off Parasites The beastscape is brimming with arcane power.
