My favourite colours are yellow, purple and blue. I find colour theory so fascinating, it’s one of my favourite aspects of creating art, I love how colours convey emotion.

There are two extremes when it comes to palette selection. On one side is my limited palette. On the other is only using colours straight from the bottle. I recently watched a video demonstrating this and felt a "grass is greener" moment I want to discuss.

Side by side image of my reference photo (left) and the completed digital painting (right). It shows a dark skinned woman in dramatic lighting that makes her skin have an etherial reflective quality to it. She has a broad flat nose, big lips and arched eyebrows with a small chin and rounded jawline and has a very prominent collarbone. She is looking to the left, and the whites of her eyes are the focal point. Her hair is short, natural and black. In the painting the skin isn't rendered completely, broken up into many sections of solid colours that create subtle hue shifts reminiscent of the arcane art style but more detailed.
