Photo of a spectacular fireworks display over Cobh harbour at night, with bursts of green, red, blue, and white light cascading above the town's illuminated waterfront. The fireworks and town lights reflect vividly in the still water of Cork Harbour. The spire of St Colman's Cathedral is visible among the lit buildings on the hillside.

Cobh Lights Up for St. Patrick’s Night

Cobh put on a cracker of a display tonight with fireworks over the harbour. We headed across to the Haulbowline Island Recreational Park to photograph the show and we weren’t disappointed. However, the barge launching the […]

Photograph of a large flock of wading birds in flight coming in to land at Harper's Island in Cork Harbour, County Cork. Dozens of birds with pale undersides and dark-striped wings fill the frame at various heights, while a dense group of darker waders stands in shallow water below. The background shows calm water and a blurred green and brown shoreline.

Waders Descend on Harper’s Island

It was my first time visiting Harper’s Island and unfortunately no birds came anywhere near any of the hides, but I loved to see flocks of birds swoop through the air in synchronised flight […]

Photograph of an abandoned farmhouse on Harper's Island in Cork Harbour, with weathered grey rendered walls, a dark slate roof, and a small dark window. A large bare deciduous tree with moss-covered branches dominates the foreground, partially obscuring the building. Old stone gateposts with a wire fence and gate stand at the entrance. The surrounding grass is bright green in low winter sunlight, with overgrown hedgerows and bare scrub around the property, set against a moody overcast sky.

Winter Light on a Forgotten Home

Nature is starting to take over this abandoned farmhouse on Harper’s Island in Co Cork. The old stone gateposts are still standing, the wire fence still technically there, but it’s clear nobody’s coming through that gate anymore […]

Cork councillors concerned officials do not know if they will be asked their views on harbour incinerator Cork County Council unsure if it will be asked to provide a formal submission to An Coimisiún Pleanála, which will decide if the controversial incinerator will go ahead

Fianna Fáil Councillor Audrey Buckley and other Councillors expressed concern the local authority still did not know if it would be asked for its views, especially as there is just two-and-a-half weeks to the submissions deadline.

A bright orange ship, delivering gas, is moored to a jetty.
In front, against a cold grey river, a scarlet navigation buoy.
Behind, a leaden sky, punctuated by a searing rainbow that seems to emerge from a castle on the bottom right.

So I’m going to start posting daily photos of the beautiful Cork harbour.
