Check for tutorials and progress photos: If you like how someone fabricated a cosplay, try searching for tutorials/progress shots they’ve posted publicly already! Some cosplayers document their process for this reason exactly, and some may have specific tutorials (either for free or for purchase).
Give credit and shoutout inspos: If you end up learning from someone’s work, share their tutorial and credit them! There is no shame in getting help, and honoring those who have helped you promotes more exchange in cosplay.
The etiquette of asking: When asking another cosplayer how they did something try to be specific. “How did you make your cosplay” is a really hard (and long) answer to give. A more direct question, like “what material did you use to make your armor” is much easier to answer.
Be mindful of time/effort: Be aware that not all cosplayers have time/ability or desire to respond to DMs and comments. Many folks try to keep up best they can, but we’re all human and have different thresholds for how social media factors into our lives. A lack of response isn’t personal, it’s more likely a time issue.
