Govt’s & Civil Law Bill that still allows #counsellingnotes be used in trials is voted thru at 2nd stage. We will campaign for amendment to ban therapy notes in court at 3rd stage. Watch this space.
The use of the counselling notes of victims in court cases is cruel, inhumane and abusive - it is morally and ethically abhorrent, counter to every single tenet of therapeutic practice, and a final betrayal of an already profoundly traumatised person.

The chilling effect of this disgusting practice on survivors going to the Gardai cannot be overstated.
It is beyond shameful and every person in this country should be outraged at the violation.

Therapeutic counselling space should be a place of safety, trust & healing -instead the system that seems to be entirely structured around protecting abusers reaches into that safety and destroys that too-leaving people who might speak out with nowhere to turn for support.

The Govt is going ahead with a Bill on Thursday that still allows #counsellingnotes of SA victims be accessed in trials - only change being a Judge will decide. This keeps the chilling effect, forcing many to choose trial or therapy. This trauma, misogyny must end. Join our protest. Lobby your TD.
Hazel Behan spoke at an Oireachtas Committee hearing regarding a complete ban on defence access to complainant’s counselling/therapy notes in trials involving rape, sexual assault or gender-based violence.
